Riva Japaul is an Emmy-nominated British documentary producer who prides herself on sensitively handling difficult subjects and vulnerable contributors.
For DARE, she has produced documentaries that shed light on topics ranging from underground virginity auctions to inhumane British prison conditions to cryptocurrency scams. Her production credits for DARE include Fugitive: The Missing Crypto Queen, The Secrets of UK Prisons, Selling My Virginity and her directing credits for DARE include the MTV digital documentary series, Every Woman and UK Prisons Exposed: Sex, Drugs and Corruption. Riva was named a Broadcast Hot Shot in 2022 and has also produced an international Emmy-nominated short-form documentary series for YouTube Originals that explored young Black men’s mental health in honour of Nelson Mandela. Her other credits include Eugene Levy’s The Reluctant Traveller for Apple TV+.
Having been supported by Derren, Riva is keen to continue the message of DARE by collaborating with likeminded on and off-screen talent.
